A Fresh Take on a Fun Fold: Friendly Foliage + Brushed with Beauty Designer Series Paper

If you’ve ever wanted to make a card that opens in a way that makes people say “wait… how did you do that?” we've got just the card for you! This fold is fun and elegant at the same time, giving you layers, movement, and a little surprise factor without turning your craft desk into a disaster zone.
For this project, we paired the Friendly Foliage Bundle with the Brushed with Beauty Designer Series Paper; the greens are rich and earthy, the florals soft and painterly, and together they strike that perfect balance of comforting and refined.
Project Details & Inspiration
The technique here is a gate-fold card with an accordion-style insert, which means the front opens to reveal beautifully layered panels of designer paper that unfold like the pages of a story. Each panel is sturdy but fluid, and when you open it, the inside feels like a blooming display of art.
We used a Mossy Meadow base to ground the design, letting the florals from the Brushed with Beauty paper take center stage. The neutral tones in that DSP add warmth and softness while the deep green keeps everything cohesive. On the front, we layered a rectangular panel with a simple stamped sentiment, “Here for you always,” from the Friendly Foliage Stamp Set. It’s a phrase that feels supportive without being overly sentimental which is exactly what you want for an encouragement or sympathy card.
Three small die-cut foliages (is that a thing? lol) sit beneath the sentiment, tied off with a neat little Old Olive Twine bow for a hint of texture. A few Pearls of Beauty dots sprinkled across the front help draw the eye inward, without distracting from the focal image.
Once you open the card, that’s where the fun fold shines. The inside features a clean white panel for your message, surrounded by the same patterned paper that folds out from both sides. It’s one of those designs that looks intricate but comes together surprisingly easily, making it ideal for when you want a “wow” card that still fits in a standard envelope.
If you’re looking to tweak this layout for another occasion, it’s easy to do:
Swap the sentiment for something celebratory like Happy Birthday or Congratulations.
Try a fall or winter paper pattern for a seasonal twist.
Or add a second stamped layer to the inside panel for extra visual balance.
Whether you’re sending it as a pick-me-up or a note of gratitude, this fold gives your message a bit more personality—something that says, “I took the time to make this just for you.”
