Soft & Sweet Love You Lots Card with the Sweet Bugs Bundle

This card started in a very familiar way: we wanted something calm. Not bold, not loud, not a “look at me from across the room” card. Just something gentle and thoughtful—the kind of card you make when you’re thinking about someone specific while you’re crafting. The Sweet Bugs Bundle was already out (because apparently it lives on our table now), and the Cute as a Bug Designer Series Paper had one of those subtle patterns that makes you slow down instead of rush.
We didn’t plan much beyond that. We grabbed a few greens, pulled out an embossing folder, and let the card stay quiet on purpose. Sometimes a card doesn’t need to do the most. Sometimes it just needs to say what it means and let the textures and layers handle the rest.
Project Details & Inspiration
This design is built on clean layers and soft contrast. The card base is Old Olive, which instantly sets a calm, nature-inspired tone. From there, we added a large panel of Basic White cardstock embossed with a subtle texture. That embossed layer gives the card interest without adding visual noise—and it’s one of our favorite ways to make a simple card feel finished.
For the focal panel, we used one of the more delicate patterns from the Cute as a Bug Designer Series Paper. The tiny flowers and soft green background feel sweet and classic, which makes this card incredibly versatile. We framed that panel with Old Olive cardstock to keep everything cohesive and grounded.
The sentiment sits front and center on a stitched label, layered over a strip of Old Olive trim. That trim adds just enough texture and breaks up the background without stealing attention. It’s one of those details that you might not notice right away—but if it wasn’t there, the card wouldn’t feel the same.
The floral image from the Sweet Bugs Bundle is stamped, colored simply, and tucked off to the side of the sentiment. Placing it slightly off-center keeps the design from feeling stiff and adds a little movement to an otherwise structured layout. We finished things off with a few subtle embellishments for a soft pop of dimension.
Practical tip:When you’re creating a quieter card, texture matters. Embossed cardstock, stitched dies, or soft trims add interest without making the design feel busy.
