This card is what happens when we say, “Okay, just one quick card,” and then immediately choose a fold that pops up like it made our plans for the evening 😂 The Sweet Bugs Bundle was already on the table because we were working on this card, the Cute as a Bug Designer Series Paper was too adorable to ignore, and next thing we knew… we had ants marching across the front like they were headed to a tiny parade (get it? lol).
We also love that this card stands up on its own. It’s one of those designs that looks extra cute the second you set it down, like it’s ready to be a little desk buddy. Add the “spread joy” sentiment, a pop of Poppy Parade, and that berry-filled background, and it just feels like happy mail waiting to happen!
Project Details & Inspiration
This Double Box Fun Fold design is all about layers and structure without turning into a engineering project. The base uses a stepped, dimensional fold that allows the card to stand up on its own, which instantly makes it feel a little extra when it’s sitting on a desk or shelf. We love cards that don’t flop over the second you set them down.
We leaned into larger panels of the Cute as a Bug Designer Series Paper instead of chopping it into small pieces. That strawberry-and-leaf pattern feels cheerful and bright, and the little bugs scattered throughout make it playful without being themed to one specific occasion.
We framed the panels with Poppy Parade cardstock to give everything definition and contrast. That bold red keeps the design grounded and pairs beautifully with the greens and purples in the paper. For the center, we added a stitched circle in Old Olive cardstock to give the focal images a clear landing spot and break up the pattern just enough.
The ants from the Sweet Bugs Bundle are stamped, colored simply, and arranged in a loose line across the circle. Giving them a bit of movement makes the card feel lively. The sentiment banner runs right across the center, tying the whole design together without overpowering the images.
We finished it off with a bit of Old Olive Twine tied along the side. It adds texture, softens the straight edges, and gives the card a slightly handmade, gift-ready feel (without needing bows or extra embellishments everywhere).
Practical tip: When you’re working with a fun fold, keep your focal images clustered on one main panel. It helps the card feel intentional instead of busy and makes the fold itself part of the design, not a distraction.
