Diagonal Joy Fun Fold Card with the Sweet Bugs Bundle

This card started with us wanting just a little something different; not a wild, twisty fold that needs a cheat sheet, but also not a standard front-fold card we’ve made a hundred times. Enter the Diagonal Joy Fun Fold, which immediately had us smiling before we even finished assembling it. There’s something about that angled front panel that look amazing right out of the gate.
We paired this fold with the Sweet Bugs Bundle and the Cute as a Bug Designer Series Paper. The soft colors, the whimsical illustrations, and that simple “hello” sentiment made this card feel friendly like the kind of happy mail you’d send just because someone popped into your mind.

Project Details & Inspiration
The Diagonal Joy Fun Fold gets its name from that angled front panel that partially reveals the design underneath. It creates visual interest right away without feeling complicated or bulky. When the card is closed, you get layers, angles, and depth. When it’s opened, you’re greeted with a generous writing space inside, which is always a win in our book, especially because Nancy writes very large.
For this card, we used Secret Sea Cardstock for the base to give the fold some structure and contrast. That deeper color frames everything nicely and keeps the lighter tones from blending together. Inside and on the front layers, we brought in Cloud Cover, which adds softness and pairs beautifully with the Cute as a Bug Designer Series Paper.
The focal area sits centered on the diagonal panel, anchored by a stitched circle in Old Olive. That circle gives the eye a place to land and helps balance the angles happening around it. The “hello” sentiment is stamped on a small label and wrapped with twine, adding texture. A few subtle embellishments from the Moody Palette Glossy Dots finish things off without stealing attention from the fold itself.
Practical tip: With diagonal fun folds, keeping your focal point centered helps the design feel balanced.
